Pininfarina SPACE designed for space. Made entirely of magnesium and ultra-light materials
with excellent mechanical properties, it was handed over to the crew of the International Space Station (ISS) for the latest V.I.T.A. space mission. The crew of astronauts working there, including Italian Paolo Nespoli, could freely use it in microgravity conditions, where traditional pens do not work. The metal Ethergraph tip of the Pininfarina SPACE pen writes by oxidation, without the use of graphite, ink or ink. It fits perfectly into the extraordinary environmental requirements of the space station, where micro-dust produced with traditional pencils can be dangerous to air filtration and treatment systems.
Product history. PININFARINA SPACE, THE FIRST PININFARINA PRODUCT IN THE SPACE It is made of ultra-light magnesium with exceptional mechanical properties. SPACE was designed to work in microgravity environments, such as the international I.S.S. The Ethergraph, from which the tip is made, has proven itself perfectly in such physical conditions. Pininfarina SPACE was handed over to astronauts as a writing tool during the recent V.I.T.A. space expedition, in which the Italian Paolo Nespoli also participated. The operation was possible thanks to close cooperation with Altec (Aerospace Logistics Technology Engineering Company).
